In 1970, Contractors and Industrial Supply Co., Inc. was formed and incorporated with an entrepreneurial spirit by Hank and Mary Schiller. Using Hank's extensive knowledge of wire rope and rigging principles gained during the 1960's while working with Leschen Wire Rope out of St. Joseph, Missouri, CIS Inc. slowly grew through the shear determination and tenacity of Hank and Mary. With their strong work ethic and resolve to provide their customer base with unparallelled service, knowledge and fair pricing, CIS has flourished. Over three decades have passed since Hank and Mary first incorporated CIS, and much has changed. However, we have never lost their core philosophy of providing unparallelled service, expertise and fair pricing for the products we sell. For over 15 years, Tom Schiller, president of the Electrode Handling Division of Contractors and Industrial Supply Co., Inc. has been working with major graphite electrode manufacturers in developing and improving on specialized lifting fixtures for graphite electrodes. In the early 1990's, with years of experience of helping various customers with specially designed lifting devices for a variety of applications in both heavy industry and construction, and with a detailed knowledge of OSHA and ANSI requirements for these type of applications, Tom took it upon himself to learn as much as possible about electric arc furnaces and how electrodes have been used and handled in various applications. With a great deal of support by many electrode manufacturers, engineers with detailed knowledge of the various aspects and idiosyncrasies of electric arc furnaces, a strong network of core fabricators and machine shops, we have developed many of the items you see on this site. Through direct contact and feedback from key people at different mills throughout the United States and abroad and through partnerships with our regional representatives, we are continually working to develop the highest quality, safest and most cost effective electrode handling devices available anywhere.
